What is giftedness testing?
- A way to determine whether a child or youth’s intellectual ability is in the range that would allow them to qualify for access to educational programs dedicated to students who are considered gifted
What does a giftedness assessment involve?
- Short interview with parents to collect background information
- Assessment testing session with your child:
- 1 – 3 hours
- Standardized testing of intellectual functioning
- Meeting with parents to verbally share findings and explain whether your child meets criteria for giftedness
- Formal written report that includes information required by schools for giftedness placement
Can a giftedness assessment determine the presence of a Learning Disability?
- To determine the presence of a Learning Disability, a more thorough assessment is required
- A Learning Disability can be assessed through a comprehensive psychological assessment or through an Enhanced Giftedness Assessment that considers intellectual and academic functioning
